        • Tottenham set to target highest-paid star players in January to disrupt wage structure
  • Tottenham hold talks with Antoine Semenyo about personal terms
        • Tottenham continue loose negotiations to sign ‘strong’ Man City player amid concerns about signing key players

Tottenham have discussed personal terms with their in-form star and outlined their project to him, with the “crazy” competition for his signature set to take further shape.

Unless Spurs act decisively when the January transfer window opens, they will be in for another wasted campaign.

Thomas Frank’s side are far off their Premier League pace and their European ambitions are increasingly in jeopardy, having won just one of their last seven games.

The numbers tell a damning story.

Spurs dropped points in games they should have controlled and looked seriously lacking in quality in key areas. Frank inherited a team with obvious weaknesses that were relentlessly exposed throughout the first half of the season.

Spurs are doing their best.

Pressure has increased on the Dane this week following last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, and the Lilywhites are thought to have contingency plans in place in case they need to sack Frank.

There is still a big hole in the starting eleven on the left wing, forcing Frank into a makeshift solution each week. It cost them goals, points and momentum at crucial moments.

Much has been made about the lack of creativity in the final third, with Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo being looked at as a possible solution.

As last season, the Ghanaian international stands out as one of the Premier League’s most potent attacking threats, with his £65 million release clause tempting elite clubs across the division.

Man City, Man United, Liverpool and Spurs are all believed to be in contention for Semenyo before his clause expires on January 10, with trusted journalists Mark Douglas and colleague Pete Hall sharing the latest updates today.

Tottenham hold talks with Antoine Semenyo about personal terms

In an article for innews, Douglas and Hall said all four clubs had “official” discussions with the 25-year-old about personal terms, while sharing the first-team’s overall plans for Semenyo.

In what has been described as a “mad market” race, the British quartet all have a chance, but some have more of a chance than others.

According to this report from inews, United are currently thought to be the frontrunners to sign Semenho, with Spurs seen as a candidate ‘outside’ Liverpool and City.

That being said, North Londoners are not completely eliminated yet, just less likely for reasons that aren’t entirely clear.

The winger has been described as ‘world class’ due to his recent form in England, so his £65m clause is clearly seen as a can’t-miss opportunity next month.

“He’s unbelievable, he’s showing it every game now,” teammate Justin Kluivert told Sky Sports.

“He’s just world class. We’re happy to have him and that’s why I said we’re a good team. He’s a player who scores goals for us and we appreciate that. He’s doing a great job.”

Semenyo’s contract fee was due to drop to around £55m in the summer, but with United, City, Liverpool and Spurs all vying for his signature, Semenyo has no choice but to compete for his signature.

Even if Tottenham miss out on the former Bristol City star, they have a replacement on the left wing.

According to some reports today, the club’s scouts are urging Spurs to sign Monaco star Magnes Akrios for just £40 million.
