UFC Fighter Questions Odd Fight Decline by Promotion, Suspects ‘Something’s Up’

One of the UFC’s most captivating fighters, Michael Venom Page, remains deeply interested in his career within the promotion. Although only four fights into his UFC journey, Page has already showcased the flashy and unconventional striking style that earned him massive popularity during his decade-long run in Bellator. Since transitioning in 2024 after Bellator’s closure, “MVP” has notched victories over Kevin Holland, Shara “Bullet” Magomedov, and Jared Cannonier.

Page’s sole UFC defeat occurred 18 months ago against Ian Machado Gary. Since then, he has secured back-to-back wins competing at middleweight, but his true goal is to compete at welterweight. The challenge, however, is that the UFC officials don’t appear to share his vision for his future in the division.

Despite beating a former title contender like Cannonier at middleweight, Page remains determined to fight at welterweight, though he might have to reconsider if he wants to keep competing regularly. He recently disclosed that the UFC has turned down his requests to move back to welterweight, insisting he only takes fights at middleweight. On the Shxts ‘n’ Gigs podcast, Page explained that while he initially accepted middleweight bouts when welterweight fights weren’t available, his clear preference is for welterweight matchups. He expressed frustration at the lack of available welterweight opponents and the inconsistent communication from UFC matchmakers, pointing out that fighters seemingly have plans set ahead of him even though he’s been ready to fight for months.

Meanwhile, fans anticipate Page’s return to action in London next March. He likely won’t be the only British fighter to appear on the card, as rumors swirl about an exciting featherweight main event featuring compatriot Lerone Murphy. Murphy missed out on a title shot against Alexander Volkanovski, with Diego Lopez controversially chosen instead, and may be aiming to solidify his own title contention by facing undefeated Movsar Evloev. This matchup, if confirmed, would add major excitement to the London event and offer local fans a thrilling atmosphere.

Fan Take: Michael Venom Page’s dispute with the UFC over weight class highlights the complex negotiations fighters often face behind the scenes, crucial for understanding their career paths. This situation also underscores how fighter ambitions can clash with organizational strategies, impacting matchmaking and divisional dynamics, something that deeply affects the evolving landscape of MMA competition.
