In boxing, few moments captivate fans like a powerful knockout punch. Regardless of the weight class, a knockout’s significance often depends on the punch’s impact, the dramatic and brutal nature of the finish, and its potential to go viral. A group of CBS Sports analysts recently gathered to debate and vote on the best knockout of 2025, revealing their top pick.

The winner: Brian Norman Jr. defeating Hitoshi Sasaki. Norman, a former WBO welterweight champion from Atlanta, lost his title to Devin Haney in a widely followed November bout but boosted his reputation by defending his title in Tokyo against Sasaki in June. The 25-year-old began 2025 with a third-round TKO over Derrick Cuevas in March and made a striking statement three months later at the Ota General Coliseum with a brutal one-punch knockout in the fifth round. Early in the fight, Norman exploited weaknesses in Sasaki’s defense with strong hooks, knocking him down twice and establishing control. Sasaki’s relentless offense continued but ultimately failed to harm Norman, leading to an electrifying bout at close quarters. The fifth round saw Sasaki throw a jab to the body and head before Norman delivered a decisive left hook that knocked Sasaki out cold. The crowd heard the impact as Sasaki hit the canvas, and referee Gustavo Oliveiri promptly ended the match 46 seconds into the round. Norman acknowledged the crowd with bows and showed sportsmanship by kneeling to respect his fallen opponent as medics attended to him.

Honorable mentions include Jay Opetaia’s defense of his IBF and Ring Magazine cruiserweight titles against Hussein Sinkara. Although Opetaia was heavily favored, he made headlines with a knockout in the eighth round from a southpaw stance, sending Sinkara to the canvas. Despite the victory, Opetaia admitted disappointment in his performance, expressing frustration and self-criticism.

Another notable knockout came from Fabio Wardley, who defeated Judge Huni in the 10th round. Huni, undefeated and technically skilled, dominated much of the fight, but Wardley showcased his resilience by landing a pivotal right-hand punch that ended the match. With Wardley now a full WBO heavyweight champion, 2025 was the year he proved he can never be counted out, especially as he prepares to face Joseph Parker for the interim title.

Fan Take: This roundup underscores the thrill and unpredictability of boxing, where a single punch can redefine careers and excite fans worldwide. For fighting enthusiasts, these knockouts highlight the blend of skill, power, and strategy that keeps the sport vibrant and endlessly compelling.
