However, according to Golf.com, although he is opposed to the tour itself, he is very positive about welcoming LIV players to the PGA Tour. He specifically mentioned current LIV player Bryson DeChambeau.
“I think they’ve already paid the price…If bringing Bryson DeChambeau and other players back makes the tour as a whole stronger, then I’m fine with that.”
In 2025, Muckleroy had a remarkable performance, winning three PGA majors. The biggest win came at the Masters. McIlroy recently captained the European team and led the U.S. team to victory in the Ryder Cup.
Rory McIlroy remained loyal to the PGA throughout
In 2007, Muckleroy joined the PGA Tour and won five major tournaments. This includes the 2011 U.S. Open, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship, the 2014 British Open, and the 2025 Masters.

In 2022, the LIV Golf Tour was launched with support from the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund as an alternative to the PGA Tour. It has brought in top players such as Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson, and offered high pay and a fast-paced golf format.
However, this is not a traditional format, and accusations of “sportswash” over human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia have led to criticism of the tour.
In 2024, McIlroy denied reports that he was offered $850 million and a spot on the LIV Golf Tour. His agent, Sean O’Flaherty, told British newspaper The Independent that this was “fake news”.
