The New York Yankees and Miami Marlins are currently discussing a possible trade involving starting pitcher Edward Cabrera, according to reports from The Athletic’s Chris Kirshner and Ken Rosenthal, who noted that no agreement has been finalized as of Sunday morning. Additionally, the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants have shown interest in Cabrera, based on a report by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, with Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald mentioning that the Mets are also contenders.

Edward Cabrera, a 27-year-old right-handed pitcher, remains under team control through the 2028 season and is projected to earn $3.75 million in arbitration this year, according to Spotrac.com. Last season, Cabrera achieved a personal best with 137.2 innings pitched over 26 games, recording an 8-7 win-loss record, a 3.53 ERA, and a 1.23 WHIP, alongside 150 strikeouts, 10 hits allowed, and 48 walks.

His 2025 season marked noticeable progress compared to 2024, where he had a 4-8 record, a 4.95 ERA, and pitched 96.1 innings across 20 games. In 2023, Cabrera finished with a 7-7 record, a 4.24 ERA, and threw 99.2 innings in 22 games (20 starts), while in 2022, he went 6-4 over 14 games (20 starts) with a 3.01 ERA and 71.2 innings pitched.

Cabrera’s debut MLB season in 2021 saw him post a 0-3 record and a 5.81 ERA in seven starting appearances. He made his major league debut on August 25, 2021, helping the Marlins to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals, allowing four hits and three runs in 6.1 innings. The Marlins originally signed Cabrera as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic in July 2015.
