The LPGA, run by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and TMRW Sports announced Tuesday that their joint venture WTGL will begin play for the 2026-27 season this winter, with TGL expanding into the women’s game. After successfully completing its first year in 2025, TGL began its second season in late December 2025.
“Partnering with TMRW Sports on the WTGL reflects our belief that innovation can help the game reach new fans and increase visibility for LPGA athletes,” LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler said in a statement. “We’ve seen how the new format captivates audiences while showcasing both the athlete’s personality and performance. And WTGL brings that spirit of innovation to the women’s game. This creates a new global stage for our athletes. It helps fans connect more deeply with the players and continues to raise the profile and growth of women’s golf.”
Details regarding teams, investors and players have not yet been announced, but the league will follow the same format as the men’s TGL. The match will be held at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and will feature players with microphones and, of course, the signature hammer.
The WTGL is the latest effort by the new LPGA commissioner to raise the profile of the tour’s stars. Kessler’s primary focus when taking over the league was to ensure that the LPGA’s best players were well known.
WTGL will not only provide a new avenue for golf fans to meet these players, but will also serve as an alternative means for American stars to play and compete in the United States. Many people now spend their winters competing in Asia.
After the Tournament of Champions in Orlando in late January, the LPGA Tour will hold its next three tournaments in Thailand, Singapore and China. Some of the top stars on the North American tour tend to miss these events, so helping launch the WTGL during that winter season could provide some kind of fallback for players who aren’t scheduled to play in the Asian swing.
The men’s TGL is expected to expand in its third year, adding Motor City Golf Club in Detroit in 2027.
