“On another page” – Colin wants a caddy again

Two-time major champion Morikawa is in the market for new caddies after breaking up with Joe Greiner ahead of this week’s Rocket Classic in Detroit.

KK Limbhasut, a former teammate of Morikawa in Berkeley, California, will carry his bag at the Detroit Golf Club this week. Limbhasut, 29, will compete on the Korn Ferry Tour.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Morikawa described Limbhasut as “a filling.”

Greiner, who worked with Max Homa until his split in early April, was riding Morikawa’s bag for the past five PGA tour starts. Morikawa cut each one but didn’t finish higher than the 17th tie in the Trust Championship on May 11th.

Ranked fifth in the official world golf rankings, Morikawa ranked 50th in the PGA Championship and 23rd in the US Open.

Morikawa split in late April with JJ Jakovac, the only caddy he had as a professional at the time.

“People, I think they’ll be surprised, but the way I put it is because they’re both good at what they do doesn’t mean they’ll be great together,” Morikawa said. “I think Joe is a great caddy, but just how we saw things, or how we went with it, we were just a bit on another page.

“It doesn’t mean it’s right or wrong, but for me it didn’t feel right. You have to explore other options. I knew it was coming.”

After splitting with Homa, Greyner was Justin Thomas’ fill-in-caddy in Masters and RBC legacy. Thomas ended a nearly three-year unwinning drought on the tour. Minister Matt’s full-time caddy for Thomas has returned from injuries after the victory.

“I knew it would be a great start, and it would be fun for me to test that I knew I had put myself in,” Morikawa said. “But at the end of the day, we don’t know what will happen to you, because we spend more time with them than anyone else in the world.

“I spend more time than my wife sometimes, and that’s a real relationship.

Morikawa said he doesn’t know who will be the caddy at next month’s Open Championship at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland, the final major of the season.
