Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has heavily criticized Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s tactics in comments previously posted on Twitter.
The Gunners were not in their best form as they drew 0-0 at home to Liverpool on Thursday night, failing to convert an opportunity to widen their eight-point lead over Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Carragher then responded to a post by popular Arsenal account Tim Stillman, criticizing Arteta’s approach to the game, saying the north Londoners had played very cautiously in both games against Liverpool this season…
Carragher accused Arsenal of not taking “risks” for 180 minutes against Liverpool this season, and also referred to the 1-0 defeat to Arne Slott’s side in August.
Is Mikel Arteta being too cautious in Arsenal’s big games?
Arteta has faced such criticism before, and it’s worth noting that Arsenal were also a little more conservative in their approach to their game against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium earlier this season.
AFC drew that game 1-1, but you can’t help but wonder if they will look back and regret not trying harder against City and Liverpool.
That said, Arteta’s side recently looked like serious title contenders after beating Aston Villa 4-1 at the Emirates, making it 11 straight wins.
It will be interesting to see how Arsenal approach the other big games later in the season, as they still have to face City and Tottenham away, as well as Chelsea and Manchester United at home.
Meanwhile, Carragher will be pleased with Liverpool’s recent progress as they are currently unbeaten in nine games, although they are still far from title contention due to a number of draws.
LFC also did not record a single shot on target against Arsenal, which was the first time this had happened in a Premier League match in 16 years, suggesting that they probably did not take too many risks in this game…
