Arsenal are exploring the possibility of a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Gehi, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The England international is also a target for Manchester City, but it appears he is taking his time to decide on his future.
Romano gave an update on Guehi’s situation on his YouTube channel, revealing that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the 25-year-old.
However, it appears Arsenal are looking to sign Gehi in the summer rather than now, although City will certainly look to sign him as soon as possible to cover injured defensive duo Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.
Fabrizio Romano comments on Arsenal’s interest in signing Marc Gehi
Romano provided an update on the Gehi story, saying: “I am absolutely confident that City can reach an agreement with Palace, but it is the player who decides and Marc Gehi is taking the time with his family and agent to consider all opportunities as Arsenal call for a potential deal this summer.”
“Arteta is a big fan of the player, which is why Arsenal are interested. Mikel Arteta really believes he is a top player, but Arsenal also have a lot of players in that position. That’s the point.”
“And there is general interest from Liverpool. They reached an agreement last summer… Liverpool remain absolutely interested in Marc Gehi and it will definitely be a match to watch.”
How will Arsenal find space for Marc Gehi?
Arsenal already have a number of top defenders, so it’s difficult to see how Guehi will fit into Arteta’s team.
City or Liverpool could certainly make Guehi an even more key player, but Arsenal already have a first-choice centre-back duo in William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, as well as very good depth in Piero Hincapie, Riccardo Calafioli and Cristian Mosquera.
However, AFC legend Sol Campbell backed the move, telling Sky Bet: “Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace is a top player. I know Liverpool have been sniffing around him. He’s someone I would like to inquire about.”
