Glasgow Rangers formally announced the signing of Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen ahead of Friday night’s SFA Cup game against Annan Athletic.
The Light Blues sent out forwards Tochi Chukwani and Toul Rommens in front of the Ibrox crowd before the match and went on to win 5-0.
Gers have the option of signing Skov Olsen on a permanent transfer in the summer if they pay Wolfsburg an £8.6 million transfer fee, according to reports.
The left-footed star would need to be a huge success at Ibrox before spending that kind of money on his services. That would make it the second-richest contract in history, after Torre Andre Flo’s £12m in 2000 and ahead of Youssef Chelmiti’s £8m from Everton last summer.
Why is it risky for Andreas Skov Olsen to sign with Rangers?
Skov Olsen is an incredibly exciting addition for the Scottish Premiership giants, as he has the quality he can bring to the pitch for Gers later this season.
As you can see above, the 26-year-old wing wizard regularly registered goals and assists during his time with Belgian club Brugge.
If he can return to the level he showed in the professional league, Rangers would be acquiring a great player and one worth spending £8.6m on.

However, as you can see from the table above, Skov Olsen played 20 Bundesliga games in his 12 months with the German team at Wolfsburg, scoring just two goals and one assist.
The risk for Rangers is not to carry on their form at Club Brugge, but to carry that form over to Ibrox. That’s why this is a risky but exciting undertaking for the club.
Skov Olsen has the potential to be a great player for the Light Blues, but there is another player who could be even better if he signs for Danny Rohr’s side this month.
Stars who could be better signings than Skov Olsen
There has been speculation from supporters about X in recent days, but the Rangers Review reports that the club has not had any contact with Motherwell regarding a deal. Tawanda Maswanhise in the January transfer window.
However, the paper added that after signing Skov Olsen, the Light Blues still have room to add another forward to their squad before the end of the period.
There has been no contact or interest in Mazwanhise yet, but Rangers could sign another attacker and he would be an even better signing for the club than Skov Olsen. That’s why Rolle should push the board to pursue him (if they haven’t already done so).
The striker, once described as an “absolute live wire” by analyst and writer Kai Watson, could be an even better signing for Gers than the Danish winger for a number of reasons.
Firstly, Maswanhise is an established player in Scottish football, having joined Motherwell from Leicester in the summer of 2024 and is in his second season in the Premiership.
However, Skov Olsen has never played for Scotland before and it remains to be seen how he will adapt to life in the Premiership. That means there is less risk for the Motherwell star given his vast experience in the division.

As you can see from the table above, Maswanhise has been one of the most prolific players in the Premiership so far this season, scoring twice as many goals as Rangers’ top scorer James Tavanye.
According to FotMob, the 23-year-old marksman can play centrally or wide and has scored 10 league goals from 5.94 xG, showing he is an incredibly efficient finisher.
This means Rangers sign a player who is currently in extremely good form, which could help him hit the ground running at Ibrox as a player who can score and assist immediately.
However, Skov Olsen joined the club after a fruitless 12 months at Wolfsburg in search of a goal contribution and it may take time for him to regain his confidence at the top end of the pitch.
Rolle signs £9m star player that could ultimately end Rothwell’s Rangers career
Rangers could finally part ways with Joe Rothwell by signing the star in January.
Rangers could therefore secure an even better contract than the Dane by deciding to make a move for the Motherwell star, who is currently shining in Scotland.
