  • Frank’s future is in doubt after recent defeats
  • Maresca could be an exciting appointment for Spurs
        • Tottenham manager Thomas Frank sacked immediately after shock defeat to West Ham

With pressure mounting on Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank, Alasdair Gold has given an update on potential candidates to replace the Dane, with Enzo Maresca being the first to name him.

Frank’s future is in doubt after recent defeats

There were calls for Frank to lose his job following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham United, with Jamie O’Hara saying: “We can’t lose to this West Ham team. They’re one of the worst teams we’ve seen in the Premier League…and we lost 2-1 to them.”

“He has to go. I don’t care who comes in. You’ll never see a performance like this again.”

“This Tottenham team is never good enough. Four years of inadequate reinforcements under Daniel Levy and we are paying the price. We have spent a lot of money and the team is shocking.”

Following this loss, it has been revealed that USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino is being considered to replace Frank. The Argentine manager averaged 1.84 points per game under his previous spell and is keen to return to north London.

However, Gold hinted on his YouTube channel that Spurs could bring in another former Chelsea manager, given that current manager Fabio Paratici, who is in place until this summer, usually prefers to bring in a certain type of manager.

Mr. Gold said: “If Fabio Paratici has anything to say about this, it will be a Serie A manager or a client of Jorge Mendes. That seems to be his go-to most of the time.”

Mendes represents a number of high-profile managers, most of whom are currently in the job, with Maresca being the obvious choice given that Bruno Large and Vitor Pereira have both been released by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Maresca could be an exciting appointment for Spurs

Pereira’s move would make little sense as it left Wolves at the bottom of the Premier League, while Large was sacked by Benfica earlier this season and also sacked by the Old Gold after scoring six goals in eight Premier League games.

Meanwhile, Maresca won two trophies during his time as Chelsea manager, winning the UEFA Conference League last season and then winning the Club World Cup with an impressive 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

The Dane is walking on very thin ice.

The Blues have won 55 games, drawn 16 and lost 21 under the Italian manager, for a win rate of 59.8%, their best result since Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel, who retired in 2022.

Maresca, who recently left Chelsea following a highly publicized falling out with the board, deserves another chance at the Premier League’s top club and could be an exciting replacement for Frank, who averages just 1.28 points per game.
