According to RMC Sport, Chelsea are prepared to make a €50 million offer for Rennes’ highly-rated young centre-back Jeremy Jacquet.
The 20-year-old has quickly become one of Europe’s most sought-after defensive players, with Chelsea’s interest the most advanced of several top clubs tracking his development.
Chelsea have identified Jaquet as a priority target now and in the future, as new head coach Liam Rosenior is keen to rebuild the team, particularly central defence.
The club have been actively scouting for young, talented defenders in recent months and Jacquet fits that profile perfectly.
Chelsea make Jeremy Jaquet their top priority
Chelsea’s €50m offer shows both their belief in Jacquet’s potential and their desire to beat their European rivals as he signs.
Sources close to the French club insist they will demand a transfer fee of more than 60 million euros, especially since Jaquet’s contract runs until 2029 and there is no release clause, and several clubs are monitoring the situation.
The long-term contract gives Rennes strong negotiating power and means they won’t be forced to sell in January unless they receive a huge bid.
The young French defender was very impressive
Jacket has had a sensational rise. He is a France Under-21 international who played in all but two of Rennes’ Ligue 1 games in the 2025/26 season and is considered one of France’s top young defenders, alongside Lenny Yolo and Lucas Berardo.
Chelsea remain determined to bring in a defender who can anchor their backline for the next 10 years.
Rennes are likely to resist unless a valuation of more than 60 million euros is met, but negotiations are expected to continue.
If the Blues raise their fees, there could be a breakthrough sooner rather than later.
