Rising Star Adrian Gil Makes Exciting Move to MLS from Barcelona!

Atlanta United is reportedly close to sealing a deal to sign Adrien Gil, a US youth international midfielder, from FC Barcelona, as first reported by Mundo Deportivo. The 20-year-old has spent over six and a half years at Barcelona’s esteemed academy and is set to join Atlanta United on a permanent basis.

### Atlanta Finalizes Deal with Gil

Gil will depart from Barcelona once the deal specifics are confirmed. Atlanta is anticipated to pay a nominal fee, and the midfielder will make his return to the MLS. He will occupy a supplementary roster position, meaning his salary won’t affect the primary salary cap of Atlanta.

### Barcelona Academy Products

Gil was part of the Barcelona squad that won the UEFA Youth League in 2025, but injuries have hindered his growth in recent years. Last season, a significant knee injury sidelined him for most of the campaign, leading Barcelona to extend his contract until 2026 in order to safeguard his value and aid his recovery.

### Injury Delayed Development

In November, Gil was loaned to Corneja in Tercera RFEF to regain competitive fitness, which proved to be beneficial as he returned to regular play, showcasing his talent and catching the attention of Atlanta United. He was already familiar with Corneja, having played for them before his time at Barcelona’s academy.

### Additional Roster Spots

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Gil is now poised to make his transition back to the U.S. and leap into MLS, where he will reunite with head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino, the former manager of Barcelona’s first team.

### Fan Take
This move is significant for soccer fans as it highlights the growing pool of American talent making their mark in top leagues. Gil’s signing not only bolsters Atlanta United’s roster but also signals the increasing competitiveness of the MLS, which is essential for the growth of soccer in the U.S.
