Tottenham could be heading for a major shake-up in their goalkeeping department, with reports emerging that they are quietly open to parting ways with manager Guglielmo Vicario.
Despite being the undisputed No. 1 since his arrival, the Italian shot-stopper’s future in north London has been the subject of intense speculation following a lackluster form and growing interest from his homeland.
According to TEAMTALK transfer official Dean Jones, Spurs officials are “scrutinizing the goalkeeper market” at two different levels.
They are primarily looking for a quality vice-chairman who offers real competition, but are also “carefully considering top options” who could be Vicario’s permanent replacement if the right offer arrives.
Tottenham quietly looking to sell Guglielmo Vicario
The catalyst for this change appears to be renewed interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan.
The Italian champions are reportedly monitoring Vicario as a long-term successor to veteran Jan Sommer.
Spurs are not keen on selling the 29-year-old, but the club’s stance has softened.
Tottenham are reported to be open to a sale, depending on the proposed fee and Vicario’s desire to return to Italy.
The newspaper added that Vicario is “positive” about returning to his home country but is still heartbroken over his desire to succeed in the Premier League.
Vicario hasn’t been feeling well lately.
Vicario’s time at the north London club has been eventful since his move from Empoli in 2023.
The Italian had outstanding moments in his first few seasons at the club, impressing fans with his shot-stopping ability and leadership qualities.
The 29-year-old also played a key role in Tottenham’s Europa League title last season, helping the club lift their first trophy since 2008.
However, he has always had a tendency to make mistakes, which has affected his performances this season, with the club reportedly looking for better options as a result.
They have recently been linked with James Trafford and Marc-Andre ter Stegen. It remains to be seen who will be signed if Vicario is sold.
