European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup wrapped up on Tuesday, with Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Scotland, and Austria claiming the last automatic spots available for the tournament.

Despite drawing 2-2 with Turkey at home, Spain secured first place in Group E, matching Italy’s impressive 31-match unbeaten streak from 2018 to 2021. In Group C, Scotland triumphed over Denmark in a thrilling 4-2 match, highlighted by an incredible bicycle kick from Scott McTominay just three minutes in.

Austria managed a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group H, while Belgium dominated Liechtenstein with a 7-0 victory. Switzerland also qualified after ending their match against Kosovo in a 1-1 tie.

The 12 group winners will advance directly to the World Cup, while second-placed teams will enter the Nations League playoffs in 2024-25, competing alongside the top four teams that did not finish in the top two of their groups. These playoffs are scheduled for March 26 and 31. The World Cup itself will take place from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Associated Press reported.

For soccer fans, this news is thrilling as it showcases the fierce competition and unexpected victories that define international play. The upcoming World Cup promises to be a fascinating event, spotlighting emerging talent and deepening the passion for the sport globally.
