In Vancouver, British Columbia, rookie Ben Kindel scored two goals in the second period, helping the Pittsburgh Penguins secure a 3-2 win over the Canucks on Sunday. This victory marked the end of Pittsburgh’s four-game Canadian road trip. Kindel, who hails from near Coquitlam, BC, was cheered on by a crowd of supporters and added a second multi-goal game to his record. The 18-year-old now has 10 goals and 12 assists across 48 games, improving significantly after his initial season where he scored eight points in 28 games and went scoreless in 20.

Evgeni Malkin also contributed a goal for the Penguins, who improved to 26-14-11, while Stuart Skinner made 19 saves to help secure their seventh win in the last eight games. For Vancouver, Jake DeBrusk and Teddy Blueger scored in the third period but couldn’t complete a comeback, and Kevin Lankinen made 21 saves as the Canucks suffered their second consecutive loss.

In the second period, Malkin assisted Kindel, allowing them to extend the lead to 2-0 within 3 minutes and 17 seconds, with Malkin scoring on a pass from Tomas Novak, and Kindel adding a goal from the faceoff circle later in the period. Pittsburgh’s recent road success included wins over Seattle, Calgary, and Edmonton.

Veteran Kris Letang returned to the Penguins lineup after missing two games due to an upper-body injury. Meanwhile, the Canucks, who have only won once in their last 14 games (with a record of 1-11-2), struggled further as their goaltender Thatcher Demko remains out with a lower-body injury.

Upcoming matches feature the Penguins hosting the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, while the Canucks will play the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday as part of their six of eight home games.

It could be a sign of brighter things ahead for Pittsburgh’s future, while Vancouver’s struggles underscore the urgency for the team to rebuild and find a winning formula.
