        • Carrick will have to drop Manchester United star, who took fewer touches than Lamence vs Arsenal
  • Red Devils waiting to pounce on ‘elite’ forward

Manchester United are reportedly planning a late raid to try and sign a potential talent before the transfer window closes on February 2nd.

Few would have expected United to win their last two games, against second-placed Manchester City and first-placed Arsenal.

Even fewer would have expected such a fluid and dynamic performance from a team that has been out of form for more than a year under the guidance of Ruben Amorim.

Michael Carrick has had a huge impact on the Red Devils and with his role as caretaker manager secured until the end of the season, the former Middlesbrough manager will be able to focus on maintaining that form. Manchester United are yet to spend in January after spending heavily in the summer, despite being linked with a number of players.

Carrick will have to drop Manchester United star, who took fewer touches than Lamence vs Arsenal

Manager Michael Carrick will be forced to take the decision to drop the Manchester United star after his team shocked Arsenal 3-2.

With less than a week left in the transfer window, Carrick appears to be primarily focused on continuing the positive elements of his squad. After his team’s stunning 3-2 win against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Carrick was asked how he thought his side were in the position after such a fantastic run of wins.

According to Man United’s official website, he said:I think it’s more about the feeling this gives us as a group. And the players, as a club, and of course the supporters. That’s my concern – how can it unite us and lift us up in a really positive way?. ”

Although Carrick appears to be primarily interested in keeping his current squad together, the Red Devils are reportedly looking to sign promising players from French football’s top division.

Red Devils waiting to pounce on ‘elite’ forward

According to Sport Witness, reports in France say Manchester United are planning a late ‘ambush’ for Mohamed Kader Meite in the final knock of the transfer window.

The 18-year-old forward joined the Stade Rene first team in 2024 and has continued to develop this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 17 Ligue 1 appearances. Naturally, Meite’s potential is attracting attention from elsewhere.

Regarded as an “elite” talent by scout Jacek Kulig, reports suggest Manchester United are “waiting in the wings” for Meite, with Stade Renne set to sell him for £26m.

Carrick has relied on young players throughout his time as manager. So far at Old Trafford, the former midfielder has overseen Koby Mainu’s return to the first team and could work just as well with a player like Meite.

While Meite is unlikely to arrive as a guaranteed starter, showing there is a clear path to the first team for young talent could be beneficial in Man United’s pursuit. However, it remains to be seen whether any money will be spent to provide further depth for Carrick in the final months of the campaign.

Man United will have to fend off interest from elsewhere in Meite, with Saudi Professional League side Al Hilal also praising the French youth international. If a deal is reached, it would be seen as an exciting coup for the Red Devils and one that will be closely watched.
