Tottenham have been advised to pursue Raheem Sterling on a free transfer after his release from Chelsea was officially announced yesterday.
The former Liverpool and Manchester City winger is currently available as a free agent and one imagines a number of big clubs will be tempted to sign him, at least on a short-term deal.
That’s what former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara wants from his old team, with the pundit telling talkSPORT he believes Sterling is still better than the club’s current attacking options.
O’Hara expects Sterling to be open to a short-term deal, perhaps until the end of the season, and is certain to have a job at Tottenham in the meantime.
Tottenham ask to seal Raheem Sterling transfer
Regarding Sterling’s future after leaving Chelsea, O’Hara said: “I would absolutely get Sterling at Tottenham. I think he’s a good player. He’s better than what we have. He’s better than what we have.”
“If he wanted to, he would sign a contract until the end of the season.
“I don’t know what other offers there are, but they might offer me a long-term contract in Saudi Arabia and a lot of money.
“But if the candle is still lit and he still wants to be a Premier League footballer, I would give him the opportunity at Tottenham.”
Will Raheem Sterling play for another big six club?
Sterling has already played for four of the Premier League’s so-called ‘big six’ clubs.
The 31-year-old started out as a youngster at Liverpool before moving to Manchester City in the summer of 2015.
After scoring 131 goals in 339 games at the Etihad Stadium, Sterling moved to Chelsea and spent last season on loan at Arsenal.
It will be interesting to see if Sterling is tempted to add Spurs to his list. Manchester United would then be the only big six team he hasn’t played for!
