Sue Magnier of Coolmore intends to campaign two Frankel-bred horses in Japan following the acquisition of a license from the Japan Racing Association (JRA), as reported by Racing Post. The process to obtain a JRA license can take over five months before approval or denial, according to the same source.

Mitsu Nakauchida, a four-time leading trainer in the JRA, will be overseeing training duties at Coolmore. Since earning his trainer’s license in 2014, Nakauchida has guided Liberty Island, the 2023 JRA Triple Crown Tiara winner, along with three other champions. His background includes training stints in Ireland as a teenager and working under celebrated trainers Sir Mark Prescott and Robert Frankel.

Racing Post also shared that Nakauchida will train Frankel’s stallion, Chesapeake Bay, who is the last progeny of Marcia, a successful short-distance horse with multiple Group 1 wins. Additionally, Snowscape, an unraced three-year-old and full sister to G3 winner Hans Andersson, is already in training under Nakauchida’s care.

Coolmore has maintained a presence in Japan through several mares in recent years, notably British Classic winners Saxon Warrior and Auguste Rodin. Both are sires linked to the legendary 2005 Japanese Triple Crown winner, Deep Impact.
