  • Inter in talks with Liverpool to sign Curtis Jones

Inter Milan have entered direct club-to-club negotiations with Liverpool to sign midfielder Curtis Jones, according to a shocking update from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian giants are reportedly pursuing a loan deal that includes an option to buy clause to strengthen their squad for the second half of the 2026 season.

The deal is part of a complex transfer domino effect currently unfolding across Europe. Inter’s signing of the 25-year-old is directly linked to the possible departure of Davide Frattesi, who is currently a target at Nottingham Forest.

Inter in talks with Liverpool to sign Curtis Jones

Romano revealed that Inter and Liverpool officials are in active talks as the January deadline approaches.

Inter are keen to improve their technical quality in midfield as they battle for the Serie A title and compete in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Romano shared on X:

“Inter are in direct club-to-club negotiations with Liverpool regarding a loan contract with an option to buy clause for Curtis Jones. Negotiations are ongoing but in relation to the departure of Davide Frattesi, #NFFC is awaiting a response.”

For Jones, the lure of the San Siro and the promise made minutes before the World Cup could be the impetus for him to leave his boyhood club.

Should Liverpool let Jones leave this month?

Jones has been linked with a move away since the start of the transfer window. Tottenham are among those keen to sign him.

Spurs were reportedly interested in Conor Gallagher even before they signed him.

And they remain interested, with reports claiming they are ready to make an offer for the Liverpool star.

Losing Jones could go either way during a crucial second half of the season for the Reds.

Scouser wasn’t an undisputed starter, but he developed into an integral part of the team under Arne Slott.

In a season plagued by injuries, particularly in defense and midfield, Jones provided essential tactical flexibility.

He has been used as a holding midfielder, an advanced ‘number 10’ and also played at right-back during the injury crisis earlier this year.

Letting him go on loan without a direct replacement could be seen as a big gamble for Slott, especially given the club’s current form.

Jones, who has been in the club’s academy since the age of nine, has already made more than 200 appearances for the Reds.

He has been part of the first team since 2020, helping the club win two Premier League titles and multiple domestic cups.

Known for his exceptional ball possession and Scouse swagger on the pitch, Jones has often been praised by the coaching staff and team-mates for his leadership qualities and technical ability.

But if he is entering the final 18 months of his contract and a regular starting spot at Anfield is yet to be secured, both the player and the club may feel that a new challenge in Italy is the best path forward.
