  • Manchester United not concerned about Fernandes’ future
  • Michael Carrick is focused on issues on the pitch

Manchester United have moved to quell mounting speculation over the future of captain Bruno Fernandes, with head coach Michael Carrick admitting a final decision will be made at the end of the season rather than in the coming months.

As reported by the Mirror, Fernandes’ long-term place at Old Trafford is under increasing debate, spurred by suggestions that Man United may need to make him one of the club’s highest earners to secure his future.

A new contract worth around £400,000 a week could be needed to convince the Portugal international to commit his best years to the club, according to reports.

However, Carrick tried to maintain a calm, reassuring tone when dealing with the situation.

Manchester United not concerned about Fernandes’ future

The United manager praised Fernandes’ influence on and off the pitch, and insisted there were no concerns about the midfielder’s commitment or attitude at this time.

While Carrick acknowledged that contract issues will eventually need to be addressed, he made it clear that he will remain firmly focused on performance and overall progress over off-the-field uncertainty.

Fernandes’ importance to Manchester United cannot be overstated. Since arriving at Old Trafford, he has been a central figure in the team’s attacking structure, regularly setting the tempo, creating chances and taking on leadership responsibilities during difficult times.

His role as captain has only increased his influence, especially in a team that continues to search for consistency and a clear identity.

It will be interesting to see how United handle Fernandes’ contract. Remaining uncertainty around such a key figure risks destabilizing both the dressing room and long-term plans.

For Carrick, ensuring stability around the captain is considered essential if standards and results are to move forward.

At 31, he’s still in his prime, and his next contract could shape the final prime of his career.

Staying at United would provide continuity and legacy, but hesitance from the club could invite renewed interest from Europe’s elite.

United appear determined to minimize distractions and put football issues center stage by postponing discussions until the end of the campaign.
