Historic First Career Win for Aswat Stuns Fans in Amazing Victory

Amira Aswat has made history by becoming the first black female jump jockey in Britain to win a horse race. At just 20 years old, she celebrated her maiden victory in a handicap hurdle at Kempton Park, riding Chance Gucheng, who was a 9-1 favorite.

Back in November, Aswat broke new ground as the first black female jump jockey to participate in a British race. She described the triumph as a “great feeling,” achieving the win in only her fourth race on Gucheng, trained by Kim Bailey and Matt Nichols.

“He gave me a fantastic feeling throughout, and I always felt like I had enough energy left,” Aswat said. “My goal is to win as many races as possible and keep pushing forward.” She added, “The message I want to share with others is that if you believe you can do it, you absolutely can, and I’ll be supporting you all the way.”

Aswat’s journey includes completing the inaugural Riding A Dream Academy scholarship in 2021-22, training at the British Horse Racing School, competing this year in the Magnolia Cup at Goodwood’s flat races, and earning her jockey license last autumn.

Fan Take:
This breakthrough not only marks a significant moment for diversity in horse racing but also demonstrates how fresh talent can challenge longstanding norms. Aswat’s success could inspire more inclusive participation and attract new fans to the sport, injecting it with exciting energy and broader representation.
