Sabers Update: Rosen Recalled, Jones Demoted, and the Latest Injury News

The Buffalo Sabers are set to start a three-game series that will span four nights, beginning Tuesday, as they face off against the Florida Panthers, a team with two Stanley Cup titles. The Panthers haven’t been the same this season after losing key players like captain Aleksander Barkov and winger Matthew Tkachuk; however, Tkachuk did return to play before the game in Milan-Cortina.

This matchup is significant for both teams, especially for the Panthers, who are eight points behind Buffalo for the last wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Bruins’ goaltender Alex Lyon will be making his third straight start and will serve as backup to Colten Ellis in goal for the second game of a back-to-back Tuesday in Tampa.

In other Sabers news, the team made roster adjustments on Sunday, sending defenseman Zach Jones to the minors and re-signing winger Isaac Rosen. Defenseman Jacob Bryson has recovered from injury and was back on the ice over the weekend. Rosen, who has scored 20 goals in 28 games with AHL Rochester, has also contributed at the NHL level with 7 points in 13 games.

Head coach Lindy Ruff provided updates on goaltender Ukko-Pekka Lukonen and forward Josh Norris, indicating both are progressing. Lukonen, who injured his leg last Tuesday in Toronto, is expected to potentially join Finland’s third goalkeeper squad in Italy later this month if his recovery continues smoothly. Norris, who suffered rib injuries against Philadelphia last month, considers himself close to full health, though with only three games scheduled this week, a cautious approach might be preferred.

Fan Take: This stretch of games is crucial for the Sabers as they try to secure a playoff spot, and the Panthers are feeling the pressure to catch up in the standings. For hockey fans, these developments add excitement and intensity—as every game in this window could be a turning point in the playoff race or a sign of promising developments for the teams involved.
