  • Tonali has fans in the Premier League too.
  • Man United told Newcastle United midfielder to sign

Manchester United have been encouraged to monitor Sandro Tonali’s situation closely, with growing speculation that the Newcastle United star could be Casemiro’s ideal long-term successor at Old Trafford.

Midfield succession planning has emerged as a key priority as United prepare for a significant summer rebuild, and Tonali’s name is increasingly mentioned in discussions.

Tonali has become a central figure at Newcastle United since joining from AC Milan, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most tactically complete midfielders.

The Italy international was the subject of surprising speculation in late January, with Arsenal reportedly assessing the feasibility of a move.

Tonali has fans in the Premier League too.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their midfield following Mikel Merino’s season-ending injury, and signing Tonali was briefly mooted as a potential solution.

However, the interest never went beyond internal consideration.

Newcastle made it clear they had no intention of holding second-half negotiations, and no formal negotiations took place.

Chelsea have also continued to rebuild their midfield squad in recent months, resulting in looser coordination.

Former United defender Danny Simpson believes clubs should be proactive rather than reactive.

Simpson urged United to take up an early position in a potential signing battle, insisting Tonali has the composure and intelligence needed to establish a midfielder at the highest level.

“I think he will complement Koby Mainu really well because he moves very well around the pitch.”

“Obviously he was a top player for Newcastle. He’s good on the ball, he’s strong, he’s physical and he’s going to be a great player in a lot of ways.

“Also, he’s the type of player that I think could put on the Manchester United shirt. It’s not easy, but I feel like he was able to withstand the pressure.

“He could definitely get in there.”

However, any movement becomes very complex. Tonali’s contract runs until 2029, so Newcastle are under no financial pressure to sell him.

Other reports suggest the Magpies will only consider offers well above £90m to £100m, but this figure is intended to deter rather than attract interest.
