Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roofs.
The 23-year-old Dutch goalkeeper has performed very well since joining the Premier League club and Sunderland are hoping to offer him in excess of £50m in the summer. According to Football Insider, Liverpool and Chelsea are both interested in the player.
Tottenham are also targeting Rufus.
Robin Rufus may be tempted
Rufus would be attracted to the idea of joining a top club, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool and Chelsea respond to their interest with formal offers. Liverpool already have two quality goalkeepers, so it would be quite surprising for them to sign the Sunderland star. We need to improve other areas of the team in the summer.
But Chelsea need a reliable goalkeeper. Robert Sanchez has been criticized since his arrival and they need a replacement for him. Signing the Sunderland star could be ideal for them. He has shown his quality with the Black Cats in the Premier League and could be tempted to take the next step in his career and join a bigger club.
Chelsea could use Rufus
Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the country and could offer him a platform to compete in Europe and fight for trophies.
It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea are prepared to pay him more than £50 million. That’s a lot of money for a goalie. They are also linked with AC Milan’s Mike Mengnan.
It’s no secret that Chelsea need a quality goalkeeper, but who they end up finding remains to be seen. Signing a reliable keeper should be one of their priorities heading into the summer.
