BKFC Manager Breaks Down What Sets Conor McGregor’s New UFC Comeback Commitment Apart

This isn’t Conor McGregor’s first attempt at a comeback, but it could be the first time he truly succeeds. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion has been inactive since the summer of 2021, when he suffered a severe broken bone in a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier.

Following his recovery from the injury, McGregor was slated to face Michael Chandler. However, after multiple postponements, he eventually pulled out of the UFC 303 bout. Many believed this marked the end of his UFC run, but recent developments have reignited his interest in competing again.

When President Donald Trump announced a UFC event at the White House, McGregor quickly expressed his desire to headline the fight in Washington, D.C. Although a 2026 return has not been officially confirmed, reports indicate that the former two-division champion is training intensely in preparation.

During his time away from the Octagon, McGregor has engaged in various pursuits, including becoming a part-owner of BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) and actively promoting the organization alongside chairman David Feldman. In a recent interview on the Uncrowned “Boys in the Back” podcast, Feldman gave insight into McGregor’s current mindset.

Feldman revealed that McGregor’s dedication now surpasses even his prime years. “I’ve never seen Conor McGregor so focused,” Feldman stated. “He’s working out daily, eating properly, attending church, and doing everything he should. This isn’t the Conor McGregor we’ve seen in recent years.”

Although McGregor initially aimed to return in a commemorative event at the White House on June 14, recent reports suggest the UFC has different plans. Ariel Helwani noted that the White House card will lack sponsors, pay-per-view, and a live gate, leading to speculation that the UFC will reserve McGregor’s return for a numbered event at the same venue.

This theory gained traction after it was announced that Ilya Topuria is expected to headline the White House fight in a unification bout against lightweight champion Justin Gaethje once he returns from dealing with personal matters. According to Alvaro Colmenero, there’s a “90% chance” this will be the marquee matchup.

Fan Take: This potential McGregor comeback is significant for fight fans hungry to see one of the sport’s biggest personalities back in action. His return could not only electrify the UFC landscape but also elevate the sport’s global profile by bringing renewed attention and excitement to the Octagon.
