Terrance Gore, the exceptionally fast outfielder who spent eight seasons in Major League Baseball and won three World Series titles, has passed away at the age of 34. His death was confirmed Friday night by Chad Funderburk, a family friend and collaborator at Gore’s baseball academy, who chose to leave further information to the family.

Known not only for his athletic prowess but also for his kindness, Gore was described by Funderburk as a generous figure who continuously supported many young people. “That’s who Terrance was,” Funderburk remarked.

A Georgia native, Gore was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 20th round of the 2011 amateur draft. Over his MLB career, he appeared in 112 regular season games for the Royals, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles , and New York Mets. He posted a .216 batting average, scored 33 runs, and successfully stole 43 bases out of 52 attempts.

“Terrance was a special talent responsible for some of the Royals’ most memorable moments and left a lasting mark on our organization,” Royals general manager JJ Piccolo said. “While his speed and athleticism stood out, those who knew him also remember his energy, humility, and his impact during the game’s most crucial moments.”

Primarily utilized as a pinch runner and defensive substitute, Gore made his MLB debut with Kansas City in 2014, stealing 23 bases that year. His first MLB hit came while playing for the Cubs—a single to center field during a September 8, 2018 game against Max Scherzer’s Washington Nationals.

Gore took part in two postseason games during the Royals’ 2015 championship run, contributed in two regular season games when the won the World Series in 2020, and appeared in one National League playoff game in 2021 with the Mets, the year the Braves won the title.

Former Royals executive Dayton Moore commended Gore’s thrilling style of play, saying, “Terrance brought excitement and anticipation to every game, inspiring athletes nationwide to chase their baseball dreams. He was deeply loved and respected by his teammates, who will continue to support his family during this difficult time.”
