Dominik Szoboszlai’s incredible free-kick against Manchester City at Anfield gave Liverpool a huge lead.
Coach Arne Slott’s side completely dominated the second half, doing everything but putting the ball in the back of the net.
However, when Liverpool won a free kick, it was the Hungarian midfielder who took it.
And, as we have seen many times this season, Szoboszlai did not disappoint. The confident Liverpool star fired a rocket that flew into the top right corner.
Donnarumma could do nothing but watch as the ball flew past him and into the back of the net.
Check out the stunning goal below.
Liverpool’s new set-piece expert
This magical moment will come as no surprise to Anfield fans who have watched Szoboszlai evolve into one of Europe’s most feared dead-ball specialists this season.
He is already building a highlight reel with incredible set-piece shots during the 2025/26 season.
Fans will immediately remember his similar performance against Arsenal in August. There he scored a wonderful winning goal past David Raya to seal an important 1-0 victory.
He repeated the feat in the Champions League in January, scoring a crucial free-kick against Marseille and scoring a goal against Bournemouth.
With Trent no longer at Anfield, Szoboszlai has fully taken over the role of Liverpool’s main set-piece taker and has proven time and time again that he can decide the biggest games with a flick of his right boot.
Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player this season
His goals grab the headlines, but Szoboszlai’s influence extends beyond free-kicks.
The 25-year-old was likely the first name on Arne Slott’s team sheet, filling in everywhere from attacking midfield to right-back during the injury crisis early in the campaign.
His relentless pressing, creativity and leadership have propelled Liverpool to the title. Slott frequently praised the midfielder’s “incredible” engine and mentality, saying he was the embodiment of the fiery style he wanted to play.
Whether winning the ball back deep in his own half or firing a rocket into the top corner, Szoboszlai is currently playing the best football of his life.
