USA TODAY Sports’ latest bracketology reveals significant changes at the No. 1 seed positions, with Houston taking over the top spot from Connecticut following the Huskies’ end to their 18-game winning streak. Connecticut fell 81-72 to St. John’s at Madison Square Garden, marking their first defeat since November 19 against Arizona. This loss dropped UConn to eighth in the NET rankings, holding a 5-2 record in Quad 1 matchups.

Houston is currently riding a four-game winning streak, recently beating Brigham Young 77-66 in Provo, bouncing back after a January 24 loss to Texas Tech. This streak has brought the Cougars within one game of Arizona in the Big 12 standings. The No. 1 seeds now include Houston alongside Arizona, Michigan, and Duke.

Duke maintains its No. 1 seed despite a close last-second loss to North Carolina, marking their second defeat in Quad 1 contests. However, Duke continues to lead Division I with 10 Quad 1 victories. Meanwhile, North Carolina climbed to the No. 4 seed following their rivalry win. The Tar Heels currently stand at 19-4 overall, 7-3 in the ACC, trailing co-leaders Duke and Clemson by 2.5 games, and hold a 5-4 record in Quad 1 games.

Recent March Madness highlights from the last four years include teams like San Diego State, UCLA, Ohio State, and Miami (Florida). The first four teams out of the tournament field are New Mexico, Missouri, California, and Virginia Tech.

Regarding conference bids, the Big Ten leads with 11 teams expected to make the tournament, followed by the SEC with 10, the ACC with 8, the Big 12 with 7, and the Big East and West Coast conferences each with 3. The Mountain West is projected to send 2 teams.
