LIVIGNO, Italy (AP) – Elizabeth Lemley and Jaelyn Kauf from the United States took home gold and silver medals in the women’s freestyle mogul skiing event on Wednesday. In a final featuring eight competitors, 20-year-old Lemley claimed first place with a score of 82.30 points.

Kauf, aged 29, earned the silver with 80.77 points, adding to her previous silver medal from the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The bronze went to France’s Perrine Lafont, who won gold in 2018. Meanwhile, defending champion Jakara Anthony of Australia had a disappointing finish after slipping on her last run, placing eighth.

Fan Take: While freestyle mogul skiing might seem far removed from basketball, this victory underscores the growing prominence of young, diverse talent across sports worldwide—something basketball fans can appreciate as the sport continues to globalize. It also highlights the importance of resilience and mental toughness, qualities that are crucial both on the slopes and on the basketball court.
