Despite already signing Jeremy Jacquet, Liverpool are set to launch a £26m offer for their second Ligue 1 defender this summer.
Slots provides update on ‘serious’ Endo injury
It was almost a perfect night for Liverpool on Wearside. It closed the gap on their top-four rivals and ended Sunderland’s unbeaten run in the Premier League at home.
In many ways, it was exactly the response the Reds needed to produce after last weekend’s heartbreaking late defeat to Manchester City. Their performance against Sunderland was controlled and professional, but those two goals were something they have under-performed this season.
However, it was a night free of further injury problems for Liverpool as the curse of the right-back position struck again. This time, it was Wataru Endo who suffered what manager Arne Slott described as a “serious” injury, and Joe Gomez was forced to come off the bench earlier than planned.
Conor Bradley and Jeremy Frimpong remain sidelined, but his injury leaves the Reds without a makeshift option.

The Reds are back on winning ways.
While sharing the latest information about the Japanese national team, Slott told reporters: “It’s a serious situation. We don’t know yet how serious it is. Of course I have to take a test tomorrow, but it doesn’t look good.”
“It’s his foot, but whether it’s the ankle or the foot, that’s something we’ll have to assess tomorrow, but I expect him to be out for a long time. It’s hard to say at the moment how long it will be.”
It’s a timely reminder of Liverpool’s defensive depth, or lack thereof, and it’s an issue they will have to address in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool preparing to offer £26m for Cresswell
To that end, the Premier League champions have already agreed a deal worth £60m to sign Jaquet from Stade Rennais ahead of the summer window. The Frenchman has opted for Anfield over Chelsea, which would greatly allay concerns about a slot centre-back.
But the Reds didn’t stop there. According to Sports Boom, Liverpool are preparing to make an offer worth around 30 million euros (approximately 2.6 billion yen) for Charlie Cresswell from Toulouse this summer.
The former Leeds United defender has made impressive progress in France and is now attracting attention from several Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
As talent scout Jacek Kulig pointed out last summer, Cresswell has performed “fantastically” for England in the Euro U21 tournament, so it’s no surprise that a number of Premier League teams are eyeing his signature.
The 23-year-old would be the perfect addition to Liverpool as they look to rebuild their backline this summer.
