  • Sesco scores in Fergie’s time, making it 3 wins from 3 for Michael Carrick.

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lamence’s gesture after receiving a penalty from Raul Jimenez caught the eye during a thrilling five-goal game at Old Trafford.

United’s resurgence under caretaker manager Michael Carrick continued on Sunday, with Benjamin Sesco’s 94th-minute winner clinching a dramatic 3-2 win over Fulham.

The win was Carrick’s third in a row since taking over as interim manager and lifted United back into the top four of the Premier League.

The late goal grabbed the headlines, but one of the most surreal moments of the afternoon occurred in the 85th minute.

After Harry Maguire was adjudged to have brought down Raul Jimenez in the box, the Mexican striker stepped up and slotted a clinical penalty into the far corner of the goal, reducing United’s lead to 2-1.

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lamence was seen displaying pure sportsmanship rather than the usual scenes of frustration and gamesmanship.

As Jimenez turned to celebrate, Lamence calmly picked the ball out of the net and closed in on the Fulham forward.

According to BBC Radio 5 live commentator Alistair Bruce Ball, the Belgian keeper “congratulated Raul Jimenez on the level of that penalty” and acknowledged that the attack was perfect despite threatening his team’s lead.

Sesco scores in Fergie’s time, making it 3 wins from 3 for Michael Carrick.

Any goodwill from Lamence was largely overshadowed by the collapse of the defense.

Just minutes after the penalty kick, Fulham substitute Kevin silenced the Stretford End with a stunning equalizer in stoppage time, curling his shot past Lamence to make it 2-2.

But Michael Carrick’s United appear to have rediscovered their Fergie Time DNA.

In the 94th minute, Bruno Fernandes crossed the ball from the right flank and Benjamin Sesco scored the goal.

The Slovenian striker took a sharp touch before turning and smashing the ball home, sending the fans into a frenzy.

It was Man United’s second successive late victory, following Matheus Cunha’s stunning winning goal against Arsenal last week.

The result maintained Carrick’s 100% performance following wins against Manchester City and Arsenal, and cemented United’s status as a form team at the start of 2026.

Perfect start for Michael Carrick as interim manager

Beyond the wins, the performances and fighting spirit that Carrick quickly instilled suggest that the old Man United DNA may be back.
