Manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly expected to sign a contract to remain England manager after the 2026 World Cup this summer.

The German tactician has done an excellent job with England so far, winning just nine and losing just one of the 10 games he has been in charge of.

Tuchel, a Champions League winner during his time at Chelsea, appears to be proving to be the ideal upgrade England needed after Gareth Southgate, with The Times reporting good news for Three Lions supporters.

They say Tuchel is expected to agree a new contract with England that will see him stay until 2028, which could be a blow to Manchester United and other big clubs.

Tuchel has had an impressive resume in his managerial career, so it’s no great surprise that he has been linked with the Man United job recently.

talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook said he had heard a lot about Tuchel being a candidate for the Red Devils to replace caretaker manager Michael Carrick at the end of this season, so see below…

Carrick has done a great job in his short spell so far, but MUFC would definitely want to bring in someone with more experience.

Tuchel might have been the ideal player, having done a strong job not only with the England national team but also with big clubs such as Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, that now appears to be impossible and United will have to look elsewhere if they decide not to keep Carrick permanently.

In some ways it’s surprising that England didn’t wait until they saw how Tuchel would do at the World Cup before making this decision.

England have reached the finals of Euros 2020 and 2024, so there will be huge pressure on Tuchel to take his team one step further and finally lift the trophy.

But it won’t be easy, so even if Tuchel has performed well so far, it seems a bit premature to reward him with a new contract before seeing how he performs in major tournaments.
