  • Gary Neville criticizes Ruben Amorim
  • Manchester United midfielder Maynou has revived his career

Football pundit and Manchester United legend Gary Neville says Ruben Amorim’s worst decision at the club was his treatment of midfielder Koby Mainu.

Amorim’s arrival is a disaster for Mainu after a breakthrough season under former manager Erik ten Hag.

After impressing both club and country, coach Amorim decided to keep the youngster on the bench as he did not think Mainu was a suitable option for his formation and tactics.

Despite impressing, Mainu was left on the bench and Amorim was unable to find his way into the England squad.

Now under interim manager Michael Carrick, Mainu is one of the first names on the team sheet.

His performances have been crucial to United’s resurgence this season, starting every game under Carrick and showing his quality and maturity at such a young age.

Gary Neville criticizes Ruben Amorim

Neville insists treating Mainu was the worst decision Amorim made at Old Trafford.

“Koby Mainu didn’t even get a chance under Ruben.” So claimed the United legend on Stick to Football.

“When I think about it now and look at the main players on this team, it looks like the worst decision Ruben Amorim has made.”

“I have to admit, I never liked the way Mainu was treated.” he added.

“I think we talked about that a lot on this show. I never liked the way it was handled. When he (Amorim) said at the beginning of the season that it was him or Bruno (Fernandes), I never bought into it.

“That’s what killed Coby Mynoux. It killed him in public. And apart from the cup game against Grimsby, he didn’t have him in the team at all.”

Amorim made life at Man United difficult because of some decisions he made.

He said that even when things don’t go well, he never changes.

Mainu was one of the best young players in the world when Amorim joined the club.

Due to the poor performance of other senior players, Amorim, instead of giving him confidence and showing faith in him, decided to put the youngster on the bench and failed to get the best out of him.

If the Portuguese manager were to watch United play today, he would regret it.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed Maynou is one of the players returning to the Three Lions.

Kudos to Mainu for proving himself once again, and to Carrick for getting the most out of him.
