Liverpool are hoping to break their club record by signing an impressive attacking star this summer for the third time in a year.
Liverpool keen to make record bid for attacker
The Reds were more financially powerful than ever last summer, spending around £450m and breaking transfer records twice.
Florian Wirtz, who set a Premier League record, joined, then Hugo Ekitike, and finally Alexander Isak, who broke Wirtz’s short record and Premier League record. That was the emphasis from Liverpool.
rank | player | commission | signatory | year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | alexander isak | £125m | newcastle | 2025 |
2 | Florian Wirtz | £116 million | bayer leverkusen | 2025 |
3 | virgil van dijk | £75m | southampton | 2018 |
4 | Hugo Ekitike | £69 million | frankfurt | 2025 |
5 | Alison | £67 million | rome | 2018 |
However, even after finally spending a lot of money, things did not go well on Arne Slot’s side. They remain outside the top four and are in serious danger of missing out on Champions League qualification. A year after lifting the Premier League title, it would be a devastating collapse.
A big plus is Wirtz’s recent form, but the less said about Isaac, the better. The Swede, one of England’s best strikers in recent years, went on strike at Newcastle United and was made to pay for his loss of fitness as a result.
The Reds’ failure is unlikely to start for Liverpool again after the Brighton game.
Liverpool’s latest failure has revealed the club’s new version of Divock Origi after a number of poor performances.
And just when it looked like Isak was finally ready to make his mark at his new club, a damaging attack on his foot sent him back to square one at the exact same time he found the back of the net against Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite this, FSG is unfazed by Isaac’s struggles. They are ready to spend big again this summer. Liverpool are prepared to spend around €200m (approximately £175m) and make a club record offer for Michael Oliseh, according to reports in Spain.
Why Olise is the perfect successor to Salah
Apart from waiting for their new players to settle in, the other problem Liverpool have is Mohamed Salah’s form. Since his previous record-breaking campaign, the Egyptian’s power has shown signs of waning this season, with just seven goals and eight assists.
Add in his mid-season spat with Slott and it looks increasingly likely that the modern-day legend will leave Anfield sooner rather than later.
Replacing Salah is an impossible mission for Liverpool, but Olise would be the best candidate to do just that.

The former Crystal Palace winger has been in incredible form this season, with an outstanding 25 assists. It’s no surprise that French national team coach Didier Deschamps described him as “fantastic” and, at just 24 years old, he’s likely to get even better in the future.
It is also worth noting that Orise’s greatest characteristic is his creativity. He is not the goal-scoring forward that Salah became at Liverpool, but that could be an advantage for Isak.
Liverpool hijack Man United’s approach and send scouts to sign ‘outstanding’ African star
The Reds could gain a one-point lead over their rivals.
With one of Europe’s best creators next to him and focused on doing just that, rather than acting as the main talisman, Isak’s task will be to do what he has been doing for many years in the Premier League: score big goals at important moments.
