  • Rafael van der Vaart shares his opinion on Salah
  • It’s time for Salah to leave Liverpool

Former Tottenham, Real Madrid and Netherlands player Rafael van der Vaart has urged Liverpool to part ways with Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian attacker had a public feud with manager Arne Slott after being left out of the squad this season.

After spending time on the bench, Salah expressed his frustration and laid the blame on his manager.

He was then removed from the squad as the club took a strong stance towards the player and supported the manager.

His form has been poor all season and his slump this season has been surprising given how good he was in Merseyside’s league-winning campaign last season.

Rafael van der Vaart shares his opinion on Salah

Van der Vaart believes Salah is losing pace and it is time for the Premier League giants to move on from him.

As reported by Liverpool.com, he told Sky Bet:

“If you look at Mohamed Salah and the position he plays on the pitch, he loses an extra half a yard and with age he loses pace.

“If you look at Virgil van Dijk, age doesn’t really matter for a defender.

“There were games where he didn’t perform at his best and everyone looked down on him, but over the course of a full season he showed everyone how good he is even at this age.

“Having big players and big names (like Salah) is sometimes a problem for both players and coaches.

“If you as a manager expect something from him and he doesn’t do it, then of course you have the right to put him on the bench, but this could cause a big problem because the opponent is Mohamed Salah. In every press conference, all the questions will be about Salah.

“It might be best for both parties for Salah to go somewhere else in the summer.”

Interest in Salah is expected to increase in the summer transfer window.

Saudi Professional League clubs have a strong interest in the Premier League star and are expected to target him again this year.

Salah has given his all for the club and has played his best years for the club, but perhaps now is the right time for him to move on to a new challenge and for Liverpool to replace him.

The Reds are rumored to be interested in signing Michael Oliseh from Bayern Munich and Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United as they plan to prepare for life without Salah.
