Glasgow Rangers missed a huge chance to close the gap on Hearts and widen the gap on their city rivals in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.
The Light Blues faced Livingston, who are bottom of the league table, and were 2-0 down after 55 minutes, but fought back to secure a 2-2 draw.
Trailing 1-0 at the end of the first half, manager Danny Rohr decided to remove Andreas Skov-Olsen from the team and replace him with Bojan Miowski, putting two strikers up front.
The Denmark international, who is on loan from Wolfsburg until the end of the season, left the pitch without making a goal contribution to show for his efforts.
However, Skov Olsen’s lack of game-changing goals and assists doesn’t paint a complete picture of the first half, and his performance shouldn’t be criticized too much.
Why Skov Olsen shouldn’t have been his replacement
The Dane started in his favored position on the right wing for the Light Blues on Sunday and was looking to bring some creativity to Roll’s side.
Even though Rangers went into half-time without a goal, Skov Olsen did what his team was supposed to do: create chances. He created three chances and one “big chance” in just 45 minutes, but was let down by the poor finishing of his teammates.
In fact, that was the big talking point for the Ger family that day. They only scored two goals from 3.63 xG and seven ‘big chances’ in the trip to the bottom team in the league.

Had his teammates capitalized on the chances he created in the first half, Skov Olsen might not have been substituted at half-time and could have been praised for his performance instead.
When Rohr and his team of analysts look back on the first half and the game as a whole, they may feel that the winger’s performance was not as disappointing as it seemed at the time.
Rather than removing the Danish winger to change things up during the break, Rohr should have substituted another player who performed worse than the Wolfsburg loanee.
Rangers messed up who should have been substituted for Skov Olsen
A number of players will be lucky to retain their places in the starting XI for next weekend’s Premiership game against Celtic at Ibrox.
One of those players is captain James Tavernier, who was wasted at full-back after coming into the squad in place of injured Dujon Sterling in Sunday’s game against Livingston.
Especially in the first half, when the captain had the ball at his feet, he overdid it instead of making the best decisions to help his team build up.
Whether it was a direct tactical decision by Rohr or a personal decision by Tavernier, the right-back tried to push the ball forward and take risks with almost every touch, with the result that Skov Olsen, who was playing in front of him on the right, did not get as many touches as he could have.
Rather than trying to get the ball to the Danes in the most dangerous position possible, Tavernier appeared to be Gers’ main outlet on the right flank, and wasted the ball far more than the loan forward.

That tactic or mentality led to the English defender losing the ball a whopping 31 times in 90 minutes. He lost the ball 25 times more than Skov Olsen, but created only two more chances for his team, and from one of them Mikey Moore was even more fortunate to score.
Their respective creative outputs, compared to how often they lost the ball, suggest that the Rangers could have been more effective in possession had they used wingers as the wideouts’ primary outlets rather than fullbacks.
That’s why Tavernier should have been substituted at half-time, moving Max Aarons to right-back and allowing Skov Olsen to become the team’s main creative threat.
Now, manager Rohr has changed his starting lineup for next weekend’s game against Celtic, and with Sterling still absent due to injury, he is expected to drop the captaincy and play against Aarons, with Skov Olsen on the right wing for the match against the title rivals.
The Rangers star has suffered a long-term injury and has already been ruled out of the Old Firm as Celtic look to win the title.
The Ger family may face a difficult situation.
