  • Steven Gerrard hints at changes for Liverpool
  • Arne Slott needs to solve the team’s attacking problems

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard remained speechless after the Reds’ 2-1 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers, slamming Codi Gakpo’s lackluster performance and calling for a change in form for highly-rated winger Rio Ngmoha.

Speaking as a pundit after being shocked at Molineux, the former Liverpool captain expressed his frustration at his team’s lackluster attack, which struggled to break down a low-block Wolves side until Mohamed Salah scored a split-second equaliser.

Gerrard singled out Gakpo in particular for his inability to influence the game or provide the necessary sense of urgency when Liverpool were chasing the game.

Steven Gerrard hints at changes for Liverpool

“Liverpool were hopeless for 65 minutes tonight. They were really poor, they didn’t create enough, they didn’t play with the right speed, they didn’t play with the right tempo, they didn’t have enough quality.” Gerrard told TNT Sports, as reported by Metro.

“He has to start Ngmoha now. He has to start because he comes on and he does more in a short cameo in a short period of time than Gakpo does in 65, 70 minutes.

“He deserves to start now. He has to start this kid on Friday night (in the FA Cup).”

Gerrard urged Slott to look to the club’s academy, particularly to backing 17-year-old Ngmoha, rather than continuing to rely on out-of-form senior players.

Gumoha has featured in Liverpool’s youth ranks since his much-publicized move from Chelsea’s youth set-up in the summer of 2024, attracting attention for his explosive speed, one-on-one ability and fearlessness.

With the race for the top four heating up and an FA Cup rematch with Wolves looming this Friday, the pressure to find a spark in the attacking third is much needed for the defending Premier League champions.

Gerrard’s comments are not alone in his sentiments, with most fans on social media also calling for the manager to make changes to his team’s attack and add a bit more pace and unpredictability to his starting lineup.

Things need to change quickly for Slott and his team as the Reds battle for Champions League and FA Cup qualification and prepare for the European finals against Galatasaray.
