Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola has been handed a two-game touchline ban after receiving his sixth caution of the season against Newcastle United.

Manchester City comfortably defeated Newcastle 3-1 in the FA Cup fifth round. Although they secured a place in the cup quarter-finals without too much trouble, they suffered a blow after manager Josep Guardiola received another yellow card. Josep Guardiola’s side get back to winning ways

Guardiola made 10 changes to his squad following their 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in the league in midweek, and his side responded with an impressive performance against Eddie Howe’s side.

They dominated the match and qualified for the final eight of the tournament. While everything went according to plan, a furious Guardiola was put on the referee’s books for the sixth time this season.

Guardiola banned from playing near the touchline

The Spanish manager confronted fourth referee Lewis Smith on the touchline after Kieran Trippier brought down Jeremy Doku. He was not satisfied with the referee’s decision and received a warning himself.

After receiving his sixth caution, he will now be banned from playing on the touchline for the next two games, meaning he will miss the league game against West Ham and will miss out on the FA Cup quarter-finals.

After making the reservation, Guardiola said: “Let me tell you one thing, we have all the records in this country, despite everything, everything. We have the record for the manager with the most yellow cards. I want all the records, and now I have them.”

“Now I’m suspended for two games and I’ll be on vacation for the next two games. There are some things you don’t understand after 10 years.

“Please reconsider your actions. Of course, I will protect Doc and all the team.”

Guardiola’s booking and suspension from the touchline was the only negative on the night for his side. They clearly outperformed Newcastle, winning four in a row against the Magpies in five games this term.
