Carragher slams Vicario’s performance in Liverpool-Tottenham draw

  • Richarlison rescues second-half point at Anfield
  • Vicario needs to improve for 8 important games
        • Solanke will love him: 45-year-old manager becomes Spurs’ top candidate

Jamie Carragher was highly critical of Tottenham Hotspur players during their side’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, saying they were “absolutely shocking”.

Richarlison rescues second-half point at Anfield

Despite the odds, manager Igor Tudor finally managed to stop the rot this afternoon, ending a run of four consecutive defeats since taking over as caretaker manager, with Richarlison’s late equalizer securing his side a point at Anfield.

Roy Keane believes the score was fair given the balance of play and the draw could prove invaluable by the end of the season, with Tottenham one point clear of the Premier League and in the relegation battle.

That being said, Spurs have fallen well short of expectations this season and still have a lot of work to do, with goaltending being a questionable position, with Antonin Kinski and Guglielmo Vicario being used interchangeably last week.

Vicario was given the nod between the sticks against Arne Slott’s side as Kinski was substituted after just 17 minutes after a disastrous start to the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid in midweek, but he certainly did not impress Carragher.

After failing to stop Dominik Szoboszlai’s first-half free-kick, the Italian was criticized by a Sky Sports pundit: “It’s not far from the middle of the goal, you have to save it. Wow, that was terrible, it was a real shock from a goalkeeper’s perspective.”

The former Liverpool player added: “The other guy (Kinski) played in midweek because he (Vicario) wasn’t good enough. That’s what happened, but in the end he ended up playing in the game and what happened is well documented.”

“But Tottenham have a big problem with goals.”

Vicario needs to improve for 8 important games

Tottenham could have picked up all three points today had the goalkeeper not let Szoboszlai’s free-kick slip through, but he needs to improve ahead of the final eight games, when Spurs’ Premier League status is at stake.

However, the Lilywhites have already decided to replace the 29-year-old this summer. That’s considering his clean sheet rate in the Premier League this season is just 23.3%, which is lower than the likes of AFC Bournemouth’s Djordje Petrovic and Sunderland’s Robin Roofs.

Solanke will love him: 45-year-old manager becomes Spurs’ top candidate

Igor Tudor is likely to be sacked as Tottenham Hotspur’s interim manager following Sunday’s trip to Liverpool.

Reports have linked Reims goalkeeper Robin Risser as a potential replacement, with the Colmar-born shot-stopper having performed well in Ligue 1 this season, with 10 clean sheets in 26 appearances.

Vicario’s performances at Anfield have underlined the need to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and while Risser could be an exciting replacement, securing his place in the Premier League must be Tottenham’s top priority at the moment.
