Manchester United have become a club known for spending big in the transfer market, as evidenced by their recruitment efforts in the summer of 2025.
Having finished 15th in the Premier League the previous year, it was vital for the Red Devils to improve many areas of their team, including their attacking department.
INEOS are reporting that Benjamin Sesco, Matheus Cunha and Brian Mbeumo are set to spend £200m on a new Old Trafford forward to join the club.
The trio have already scored 25 goals in the league so far, with the aforementioned stars currently the top three scorers within the senior ranks.
However, despite the immediate impact of summer reinforcements, the hierarchy has already identified a number of players who could join the squad during the off-season.
In recent days, United have been just one of the Premier League clubs rumored to be linked with a move to sign Inter Milan’s 20-year-old centre-forward Pio Esposito this summer.
According to reports, the Red Devils are already in contact with Serie A sides about the possibility of signing the youngster, who has scored nine goals in all competitions for the 2025/26 season.
But Cristian Chivu’s men have said Esposito will not be sold at any price this summer, so it could be difficult for the Italian to get a deal done.
He is not the only name that has caught the attention of the club recently, with Ajax star Mika Gotts also another forward linked with a move to Old Trafford.
According to journalist Sascha Tavolieri, the club is already in contact with the Dutch team about a possible move for the 20-year-old, who currently has 23 goals and assists.
Sky Sports journalists did not specify the fee for his services, but other outlets have confirmed that the left-winger’s move could cost as much as £34m.
Why Gotts is the perfect replacement for Rashford
United could need additional reinforcements within the final third this summer, especially if winger Marcus Rashford leaves on a permanent basis in the coming months.
The English player, a product of the Red Devils’ academy, found it difficult to break into the first team at Old Trafford, resulting in him being loaned to Barcelona for the entire 2025/26 season.
The 28-year-old regained his form in La Liga and has since scored a total of 20 goals and assists in all competitions for Hansi Flick’s side.
The Spanish giants have the option of signing Rashford on a permanent transfer this summer, which could open the door for United’s hierarchy to strengthen their squad.
Any departure would undoubtedly be sad given his long stay at Old Trafford, but it could be a great opportunity to complete Gotts’ deal from Ajax.
However, fans may be questioning the Belgian’s move, especially after the lack of impact from the last winger to join Old Trafford from the Dutch giants.
Anthony joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 for an estimated £86m, but only scored 12 times before leaving for just £20m, joining Real Betis in August.
Despite concerns about Gotts leaving, the Belgian has put up incredible numbers this season and the club are sure to intend to pursue a move for him.
The 20-year-old has hit an impressive 1.4 per 90 shots on target this season, and has also managed to achieve a 50% accuracy rate so far this season.
Mika Gotts – Eredivisie statistics (2025/26) | |
|---|---|
Statistics (every 90) | tally |
games played | twenty five |
goals and assists | twenty three |
shot on target | 1.4 |
Accuracy of shots on target | 50% |
Dribbling completed | 2.8 |
An opportunity has arisen | 2.7 |
Touch inside the 18 yard box | 7.1 |
foul win | 1.4 |
According to the aforementioned figures, he ranks in the top 5% of all attackers in the Eredivisie this season, showing he is a threat in front of goal.
He has also achieved 2.8 completed dribbles per 90 and 2.7 chances created per 90 so far, underscoring his ability to create chances for other players alongside solo action.
Other numbers such as 7.1 touches inside the opponent’s penalty area and 1.4 fouls per 90 show he is a threat to any team looking to contain him.
His all-round nature in the final third could arguably make him the perfect Rashford replacement, while also allowing fans to forget Anthony’s disappointing signing.
£34 million is an incredible amount of business in today’s market and could add serious quality and depth to United’s already strong front.
