Jose Mourinho is one of the most iconic managers in football history and the legendary manager has opened the door to a potential move to Celtic.

Mourinho is one of the greatest managers of the 21st century, a serial champion who has managed Europe’s biggest clubs throughout his career, including Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham and Roma.

His latest task has been to return Benfica to the top of Portuguese football, but the Eagles are currently lagging in the Primeira Liga and were eliminated by Madrid in the Champions League.

Celtic are experiencing further financial woes at the moment, with the ‘Special One’ set to move to Scotland.

The Hoops started the season with Brendan Rodgers in charge, but the Irishman left under unwelcome circumstances, and Martin O’Neill’s first interim spell was cut short to bring in Wilfried Nancy, who was nothing short of a disaster.

While O’Neill’s return has lifted his spirits, the 74-year-old has been open about the fact that he has no intention of staying in the management team forever.

Jose Mourinho is positive about becoming Celtic manager

Mourinho was asked about this time last year if he would be interested in the possibility of working for Celtic or Rangers in Scotland.

At the time, he was happy with Fenerbahce, but admitted he would be open to a move in the future, calling Celtic a “big club” with a “big fan base”.

“Why isn’t that the case in the future? People may say the Scottish League is a two-team league, but it’s a league of passion. It’s all about passion in football.”

“There is no point in playing in empty stadiums and tournaments where the fire of passion is not burning.

“Celtic and Rangers are two big clubs in Europe with a great history. I have a lot of respect for them. They are big clubs with a big fan base and expectations.”

Mourinho previously revealed that Porto’s 3-2 win over the Hoops in the 2003 UEFA Cup final was given to him by O’Neill as the “biggest game ever”.

“The final against Celtic wasn’t the biggest win, it wasn’t the biggest joy, but it was the biggest game ever in terms of intensity,” he said.

“It’s still the most nervous game of my career. Since then I’ve played in three European finals and twice in the Champions League. I’ve won so many titles and been involved in so many great matches.

“But in terms of tension, intensity and extreme emotionality, that game against Celtic beat them all.”

Manchester United’s legendary pair had different opinions…

The Portuguese appears to rate the Premiership giants very highly and given that Benfica’s season is slowly coming to an end, perhaps the Parkhead bosses will consider testing their strength with an offer this summer.
