What Elvis Basanovich said about Benjamin Sesco
Slovenia international Elvis Vasanovic’s agent has revealed that the striker is reluctant to be described as a “super sub”.
In an interview with Arena Sport (quoted by the Mirror), Vasanovic made it clear that while Sesco has delivered results off the bench, he feels the label is disrespectful to a player of his caliber.
He said, “If you ask me about this name, I don’t like it. I much prefer ‘Super Striker’. I think Benjamin is a Super Striker.”
“He started 13 games this year, 13 of them coming off the bench. Half of his goals came when he started the game and the other half came off the bench.
“We know he is a complete striker and Benjamin deserves the title ‘super striker’.”
Vasanovic insisted that the £74m signing from RB Leipzig in the summer should be seen as a complete striker rather than an impact player.
The agent’s complaints suggest tensions are brewing behind the scenes, and while Sesco remains a professional, the camp expects him to be the first name on the team sheet.
Sesco has grown under Michael Carrick after a rocky start under Ruben Amorim
Sesco’s resurgence since Michael Carrick took over in January has been nothing short of remarkable.
The 22-year-old has scored 10 goals in all competitions this season, although he has struggled to find the back of the net under manager Ruben Amorim.
Crucially, four of those shots came as second-half substitutes, including the vital game-winners against Fulham and Everton, and the late equalizer against West Ham.

This “clutch” factor earned him the nickname “Super Sub” by fans and media.
However, Carrick preferred a front line featuring Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, with Sesco often providing the spark in the final 30 minutes.
