  • Fabrizio Romano cancels Roberto De Zerbi update
    • Tottenham may choose another short-term manager if they fail to sign De Zerbi

Tottenham are working hard to convince Roberto De Zerbi to become their next permanent manager, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

Following Igor Tudor’s official departure, Spurs are reportedly working around the clock to sign the Italian tactician, who has been the club’s “dream target” since leaving Marseille in February.

The north London club are currently in a state of emergency, sitting just one point above the Premier League relegation zone with seven games remaining.

Fabrizio Romano cancels Roberto De Zerbi update

Romano explained on his YouTube channel that De Zerbi is interested in the Tottenham project, but it may be better to wait and see how the club’s Premier League situation progresses by the end of the season before making a decision.

“My understanding is that Tottenham’s dream remains Roberto de Zerbi,” Romano said.

“Importantly, Roberto’s original idea was always to consider a summer job at Tottenham.

He wanted to wait until the end of the season to figure out what opportunities would be best for his future. ”

But Romano pointed out that the Spurs aren’t taking “no” for an answer. “Tottenham are pushing very hard to get him. Let’s see if we can find a way to convince him. If there’s even a 1% chance of getting him now, they want to try.”

Tottenham may choose another short-term manager if they fail to sign De Zerbi

If Tottenham are unable to convince manager De Zerbi to join the relegation battle immediately, the club are prepared to turn to another short-term manager for the time being.

Romano said he is being discussed for the role, as well as Sean Dyche and other directors.

The former Everton and Burnley manager is no stranger to such high-pressure relegation battles.

In the case of a permanent transfer, if De Zerbi does not join, Mauricio Pochettino remains a romantic option for a permanent return.

Pochettino, who is currently the USMNT manager, is reportedly open to returning to North London regardless of league status, but he is unlikely to be able to return until after the 2026 World Cup this summer.
