  • Mauricio Pochettino talks about his connection with Tottenham
  • Spurs move rapidly towards signing De Zerbi

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that Tottenham have not approached him about a sensational return to the club, but it is worth noting that the former Spurs manager does not rule out a return to north London in the future.

Ahead of the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT)’s friendly against Portugal, Pochettino spoke about the swirling speculation linking him to the Tottenham job.

Mauricio Pochettino talks about his connection with Tottenham

Pochettino was asked about Tottenham’s relationship with Real Madrid in a new interview and admitted he has had no contact with either club.

Highlighting his involvement with the U.S. national team, he said (quoted by Ben Jacobs):

“There are no talks. We are very focused on the World Cup here. Everyone knows that I have commitments with the national team here. It is not important to talk about the future. No one approached me, but who knows what will happen.”

While maintaining his professional stance, he admitted that “no one knows” what the future holds, coupled with the fact that his current contract expires after this summer’s World Cup, leaving the door open.

Interestingly, he also indicated his intention to extend his stay in international management, adding: “We’re open[to staying with the USMNT]. If the federation is happy, then why not?”

Spurs move rapidly towards signing De Zerbi

Pochettino’s lack of contact with Spurs suggests the club hierarchy is looking elsewhere for an immediate solution to Spurs’ crisis.

Tottenham are reportedly moving quickly to sign former Brighton and Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi after manager Igor Tudor left the club after just 44 days.

With Premier League survival at stake, Spurs are said to have made a major move to convince De Zerbi to take up the role immediately.

Appointing De Zerbi on a permanent contract would put an end to Pochettino’s fairytale comeback story, at least in the near future.
