Rangers are planning to sign the Sheffield Wednesday star this summer, which could be an immediate blow to potential new owner David Storch.

Gers look to raid Rolle’s former club

Wednesday’s season has been eventful to say the least, with an 18-point deduction earlier this season and relegation from the Championship confirmed in February.

However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel, with a consortium led by Storch emerging as the preferred bidder for the Owls, who have been searching for a new owner since taking office in October.

In a post about X a few days ago, Storch wrote: “I am delighted that yesterday we cleared a major hurdle towards our goal of gaining ownership of this great club by the end of the season.

“I would like to thank the EFL and management for such a productive conversation last week. I want everyone to know that my team and I are working tirelessly and are absolutely committed to doing everything we can to get the best possible result for Sheffield Wednesday and our amazing fans.”

New preferred bidder is involved in a huge deal…

A sale is looming, but the Championship side’s problems don’t stop there, as they face a 15-point penalty in Ligue 1 next season if a deal goes through.

With Sheffield Wednesday set to start next season at such a huge disadvantage, it could be difficult to keep hold of their star players this summer, with Rangers manager Danny Rolle now eyeing a raid on his old club.

According to a report from Sports Boom, Rangers are set to put Storch up for immediate sale, with Rohr confident he can persuade goalkeeper Pierce Charles to move to Ibrox.

Given Wednesday’s current financial situation, the Scottish Premiership side believe they can negotiate a lower price, especially given that by the time the summer rolls around Charles will only have one year left on his contract, effectively leaving them with no choice but to cash in on one of their last salable assets.

Rolle is said to be a big fan of the goalkeeper, who was described as a “fantastic” prospect by Newcastle United’s Anthony Elanga.

The Northern Irishman is still very young at just 20 years old, but he has already established himself as the national team’s first choice between the sticks, having been Wednesday’s first choice goalkeeper this season when it suits him.

Northern Ireland lost 2-0 to Italy in the semi-finals and missed out on qualifying for the World Cup, but you can’t blame the youngster who made five saves, including three from inside the penalty area, and has also shown excellent passing range in the past.

Given that Jack Butland is now 33 years old and the Englishman’s contract expires next summer, Rangers could get away with bringing in a long-term replacement, and Charles would fit the bill.
