Newcastle United are reportedly in contact with Paris Saint-Germain striker Gonzalo Ramos over a potential transfer this summer.

The Portuguese international has mainly shown his talent at PSG, but he has not always lived up to the exceptionally high standards set by the club’s other forwards.

There is a lot of competition in Luis Enrique’s side, so it may not be too surprising that Ramos is thought to be on the verge of leaving.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle are one of the clubs on the list, and initial contacts have already been made.

The Magpies could be good enough to sign a player like Ramos next season after the slightly underwhelming performances of last summer signings Yoan Wissa and Nick Woltemade.

Could Gonzalo Ramos finally help Newcastle in place of Alexander Isak?

Ramos has scored 44 goals in 124 appearances since joining PSG, compared to 41 goals in 106 appearances for his former club Benfica.

If the 24-year-old can repeat those performances in the Premier League, he will undoubtedly be a suitable signing for Newcastle.

But at the same time, he doesn’t seem good enough to give NUFC the replacement for Alexander Isak that they were probably looking for…

Overall, Ramos is mid-table and at a reasonable stage of his career given Newcastle’s need for a striker and the fact that he probably won’t cost a fortune.
