Liverpool’s ability to spend big in the transfer market has been reflected in recent years, but perhaps never more so than last summer under current manager Arne Slott.

After winning the Premier League title the previous year, Reds bosses backed the Dutchman with more than £450m to take the team to the next level.

Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak were both signed in deals worth over £100m, and he went on to break the club’s transfer records twice.

But despite the heavy spending, the division looks set to once again improve at the top this summer, especially with Mohamed Salah leaving at the end of the campaign.

A number of names have been floated for a move to Merseyside this summer, but it remains to be seen which players will be the top targets at this point.

Liverpool to bid £60m for attacking sensation

In recent weeks, Bayern Munich star Michael Oliseh is just one of the players being touted as a summer replacement for Salah.

The Frenchman remained in excellent form throughout the ongoing campaign, going on to score a total of 45 goals and assists in as many games as Vincent Kompany’s side.

However, the Bundesliga side announced this summer that they would not put the 24-year-old up for sale at any price, which could disrupt business for the Reds during the off-season.

Olise is not the only player in Germany’s top flight currently attracting attention in the division, with RB Leipzig star Yann Diomande also being praised behind the scenes.

According to SPORT via Sport Witness, Liverpool are preparing a bid of £60m for the Ivorian, who has scored 16 goals and provided an assist this season.

But the Reds aren’t the only players targeting the 19-year-old this summer, with Chelsea and Barcelona also in the race for the youngster in the coming months.

It remains to be seen whether the subsequent transfer fee will be enough to secure his contract, but Diomande’s status as a Reds fan could give them an advantage in the race.

Why Diomande could be Liverpool’s next Szoboszlai

Back in the summer of 2023, Liverpool completed the signing of attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from German club RB Leipzig for £60 million, but few fans knew what was coming.

However, a few years have passed and the Hungarian is now one of the Reds’ star players, with his performances leaving slot players with a chance of a top-four finish.

The 25-year-old has scored a combined eight goals and provided an assist in the Premier League this season, many of which have been hailed as the division’s goals of the season.

He has certainly been a bright light for the club in attacking areas in recent months, scoring two long-range shots against Manchester City and Arsenal.

However, the Reds could sign a similar deal for Diomande this summer, with the Ivory Coast international following in the footsteps of Szoboszlai and moving from Leipzig to Anfield.

Like the Hungarian, he is unknown to many supporters, but there is no doubt that the club will be acquiring a top young talent who will be on Merseyside for many years to come.

His basic stats further underline the quality he possesses and there is a chance he could emulate Szoboszlai in becoming a fan favorite if he moves to Merseyside.

The 19-year-old has a 50% shooting accuracy on target and 1.1 shots per 90 on target, both of which rank in the top 20% of all players in the division.

The aforementioned figure adds an extra dimension to the club’s front line and could potentially follow in the footsteps of Szoboszlai, who made his breakthrough inside the final third at Anfield.

Diomande’s talent in possession is further reflected in his 85% pass success rate while creating 2.1 chances per 90 so far this season.

The latter is higher than 88% of players in this category, and the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Isak and Szoboszlai could improve their record even further.

However, the Ivorian’s greatest asset is his ability to glide past opponents, as evidenced by his impressive 4.1 dribbles per 90, a success rate of 58%.

At just 19 years old, it’s truly scary to see how impressive Leipzig’s star has been throughout this season, and his talent makes him the perfect successor to Salah.

It is unclear whether the £60m offer will be accepted during the summer, but it is a sign of the management’s intention to further strengthen the squad during the off-season.

If he can take action and approach the level Szoboszlai produced at Anfield, it would be another monumental undertaking by the glory-chasing Reds.
