AUGUSTA, Ga. — The 2026 Masters began with 91 players competing for the coveted title of Masters Champion and the green jacket that comes with it. Of those, 54 are within the cut line, and since there is no amateur play over the weekend, all remaining golfers in the field will be paid once play ends Sunday night.

There is probably no tournament where being a past champion carries more weight, and while so much of modern golf is about big prizes and ultimate prizes, the Masters is one of the rare tournaments where that is truly a secondary motivation.

Follow the 2026 Masters Leaderboard live coverage and updates on Sunday’s 4th round.

Still, in addition to all the perks that come with winning at Augusta National Golf Club (including a lifetime invitation returned every April), the Masters champion still earns a very healthy salary for winning the season’s first major championship.

The 2026 Masters prize money will increase again from $21 million in 2025 to $22.5 million in 2026, and the man wearing the green jacket on Sunday night will take home $4.5 million for his efforts. The top four finishers on the final leaderboard will each win more than $1 million in prize money, and all 12 finishers will receive checks of at least $517,500. And perhaps most importantly, an invitation to the 2027 Masters.

Who will ultimately win and claim the green jacket? CBS Sports set out to solve this problem. Candidates to win the 2026 MastersThat includes 54-hole leaders Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young, Scottie Scheffler and the rest of the top 10 who could pull away Sunday.
