The Portugal international continues to attract interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, but Manchester United’s increased hopes of qualifying for the Champions League appear to have changed the game.

This is what Fabrizio Romano said in his latest YouTube post, with the transfer expert explaining that Fernandes is very keen to stay with the Red Devils and play in the Champions League.

It looks like talks are set to be held regarding Fernandes’ future after the season ends, and fans of the club will be hoping that this will ultimately lead to a better direction.

Fabrizio Romano talks about Bruno Fernandes’ future

“What I can say is that in recent weeks the possibility of playing in the Champions League again with Manchester United has really, really influenced Bruno Fernandes,” Romano said.

“What I can tell you at this point is that Saudi Arabia still wants Bruno the same way they always wanted Bruno three years ago, two years ago, one year ago.

“So they remain interested. But Bruno is really tempted to play Champions League football at Man United. So Man United are optimistic about keeping Bruno Fernandes next season.”

“Let’s see how the talks continue. We’ll see what happens. But Man United are optimistic. And there will be talks between Bruno and Man United at the end of the season.”

“So we’ll keep an eye on the situation, but certainly United would like to be able to keep Bruno and they’re going to try to keep Bruno Fernandes.”

Bruno Fernandes transfer summary

Fernandes has one year left on his contract with United this summer, so it’s not entirely clear how this saga will play out.

However, Romano’s words will be encouraging for MUFC supporters. One of the most trusted journalists in the industry seems to strongly suggest that both club and player are keen to continue working together.

Fernandes has recently been reported to have interest from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, so that could continue to play a role.

The 31-year-old may want to play in the Champions League with United, but a move to either club would certainly improve his chances of actually winning it, as well as other major titles that eluded him during his time in Manchester.

Warning from Liverpool

United might do well to look at how rivals Liverpool have been blindsided by Mohamed Salah’s sudden decline in form this season.

Another of the Premier League’s aging stars, Salah was in world-class form last season and earned a new contract, but a year on and he has struggled to show anything close to his best form and is now set to leave.

Fernandes may be able to avoid such a fate, but there are always risks in handing a contract to a player who could suddenly find himself in irreversible decline.
